Investment
Act's productions are financed by a number of established and new investors, both private and commercial. The amount of capital required for a production is determined by calculating the estimated production and weekly running costs, and including a reasonable contingency reserve.
Investment is in units, typically ranging from £2,500 for a West End play, to £20,000 for a large-scale West End musical. Each investor’s liability is fixed at and will not exceed this amount.
The investors receive their capital back from the first profits of the production. Once all the capital has been re-paid and the production is in profit, in a UK production the investors usually share 60% of the profits and the producers retain the remaining 40% of the profit.
Although investing in Theatre can be high-risk and investors may lose the entire amount of their investment, it is an extremely fulfilling form of investment, and there are many success stories of productions generating impressive profits.
Act investors also benefit from their relationship with the company and enjoy:
- Complimentary tickets to opening night performances.
