ABOUT US
ROGER WINGATE
CHAIRMAN
Theatre has run through Roger Wingate’s career from the very beginning. While Chairman of Chesterfield Properties PLC, he also developed major interests in film distribution (Artificial Eye) and cinemas (Curzon). His connection to the stage, however, goes back further: his father owned the Comedy Theatre, which Roger later grew into a portfolio including the Phoenix and the Maybox group of theatres (Albery, Wyndham’s, Piccadilly and Whitehall), forming Associated Capital Theatres.
After the sale of Chesterfield in 1999, and of the theatre portfolio to Ambassador Theatre Group the following year, Roger turned his focus fully to production, founding Act Productions which was quickly established as a leading force in West End, touring, and Broadway theatre. He also led the rebuilding and reopening of the Donmar Warehouse, appointing Sam Mendes as Artistic Director, and today remains closely connected as the theatre’s Honorary Life President.
Beyond Act, Roger has served on the Boards of Soho Theatre and High Tide, continuing his commitment to bold, innovative work and to championing the next generation of theatre-makers.
ROS POVEY
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Initially training as an actress, Ros stepped into producing in 2004 at the Old Vic Theatre, assisting on the launch of the Old Vic Theatre Company and the original London production of Billy Elliot the Musical — a true baptism of fire.
Her career since has spanned groundbreaking new work and acclaimed revivals. Highlights include Network (National Theatre/Broadway), Spring Awakening (Novello), Three Days of Rain (Apollo), and the first major revival of Lionel Bart’s Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’be (Stratford East). In 2009, she received the Stage One Start-Up Fund for the transfer of Chichester Festival Theatre’s Love Story to the Duchess Theatre.
Joining Act Productions in 2015, Ros has co-produced and raised investment for many West End productions including Glengarry Glen Ross (Playhouse), The Starry Messenger (Vaudeville), A Chorus Line (Palladium) and the Olivier Award-winning Wind in the Willows (Duchess/Vaudeville). She has also developed and premiered new work at regional and subsidised venues, including The Lavender Hill Mob (Everyman Cheltenham/UK tour), A Room with a View (Theatre Royal Bath/UK tour), Guards at the Taj (Bush), and The Turn of the Screw (Almeida).
Ros is a member of the Society of London Theatre, a Stage One bursary panellist and mentor, and served on the board of Musical Theatre Network from 2016–2020.
